In a rare, no-questions-barred interview, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo sits down exclusively with News 12 Senior Political Reporter Tara Rosenblum to discuss his bid to become New York City's next mayor.
Cuomo's decision to run for New York City mayor was first reported by News 12's Tara Rosenblum.
He is currently leading the polls in the New York City mayor’s race and has launched a comeback campaign that could reshape politics across the tri-state area.
Cuomo opens up about public safety, his long-standing relationship with Donald Trump, his criticism of progressive rivals, and the personal family legacy driving his comeback campaign. The wide-ranging conversation also addresses the challenges facing commuters from Westchester and Long Island, past mistakes, his plans to rebuild trust, and the lessons learned from his decades in public service.
News 12’s Tara Rosenblum was invited to spend a busy day on Cuomo’s campaign trail, starting with a stop at a Brooklyn church where he’s rebuilding his political base and ending with an unfiltered conversation in a nearby park.
Here are some questions addressed by Cuomo in the interview:

Cuomo on restoring public safety:

"You saw a person killed on a subway car and then robbed and abused…No, you're not going to convince anyone that they're safe in New York. And it is a threshold issue because if people don't feel safe…they are not going to stay."

Cuomo on his competition:

"I think the other candidates are theoretical. I don’t think they have the experience or the know-how to actually do the job."

Why voters should trust him:

"I stood up and I led the state on COVID. In many ways. I think I provided leadership to the entire country and I'm proud of it. The issues that they raised, they were all political."
