This Saturday when mail carriers across the country head out on their routes they will be picking up much needed items to help those in need.
You may be getting a yellow plastic bag this week from your mail carrier to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries.
It's called The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
The Drive has grown into the nation's largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.
It happens every year on the second Saturday in May.
Two local organizations will be benefiting: The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County in Stamford and Person to Person.
