A Wilby High School student was arrested in Waterbury Wednesday for having a gun, police say.
Police say a student informed school staff around 7:30 a.m. that another student displayed a gun on the school bus.
That information prompted the school to be placed under a shelter in place protocol. It was later lifted, and normal school activities resumed.
Police say they recovered an unloaded handgun from the 15-year-old's possession.
The student was taken into custody and charged with threatening, possession of a weapon on school grounds, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal use of a firearm, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor.
Officials described the incident as isolated and say there is no ongoing threat to the school, students, staff or surrounding community.
No one was injured, according to authorities.
"We commend the student who reported this serious concern. The quick response by school staff and our officers ensured the situation was brought under control without incident," said Chief Fernando Spagnolo.
